On 06/29/2021 from 17:30 to 19:00 CEST, the webinar “Just punishment thanks to Smart Sentencing?” will be held online, hosted by the Legal Tech Lab Cologne (LTLC).
Digital justice – how does it work?
Smart Sentencing = Just Punishment?
Judges have a great deal of leeway when it comes to sentencing. In some cases, there are significant regional differences. Is it fair if the punishment depends on where sentencing takes place?
Members of the Legal Tech Lab have already asked themselves this question in 2019 and founded the Smart Sentencing Task Force. Their Smart Sentencing Tool aims to show judges comparable cases to create transparency and justice. After building a prototype, the project will be continued by the chair of Prof. Dr. Dr. Rostalski and the Fraunhofer Institute.
But what can the tool do, how feasible is its use, how should it change the work of judges and what are the chances and risks of the Smart Sentencing Tool?
In the third part of LTLC‘s event series “Digital Justice – How does it work?” a light will be shed on the Smart Sentencing Tool with following speakers:
- Jin Ye and Malte Völkening, members of the Lab and companions of the Smart Sentencing project from the beginning.
- Dr. Frank Seebode, specialist lawyer for criminal law and member of the board of KAV
- Christian Schmitz-Justen, Vice President of the Higher Regional Court of Cologne
Participation in this event is free of charge. Please register for your participation here. The event will be in german language!
